Aim: Evaluation of facial shape and proportions is one of the most important steps in determining treatment options and outcomes. Balancing the position of the lips in relation to the nose and chin has a direct effect on patient aesthetic preference. Therefore the aim of this study was evaluation of the correlation between nasolabial angle and antero-posterior position of maxilla in orthodontic patients who referred to private dental office in Yazd city.
Material and Methods: In this cross- sectional descriptive study position of maxilla were evaluated based on Mc. Namara and Steiner analysis in the lateral cephalometric radiographs of 47 orthodontics patients (21 male and 26 female). Nasolabial angle (NLA) and lower nasolabial angle (LNLA) were measured and correlation between thesen parameters were analyzed by ANOVA test and Pearson’s correlation tests using SPSS(version 16).Results: Diffrences of Wit’s appraisal SNA and Mc namara values amoung three groups of maxillary deficiency, maxillary excess and orthognatic patients were statistically significant (p.value<0.05) but no correlation found among NLA or LNLA and maxillary position(p.value>0.05)Conclusion: Due to compensation of skeletal problems by teeth, NLA can not describe position of maxilla perfectly.

Aim: Ideal facial esthetic and smile as one of it's components are the major topics in orthodontic treatment. One important goal in modern orthodontics is harmony between facial soft tissue in static and dynamic state. The objective of this study is evaluation of correlation between facial index and modified smile index (MSI). Materials and methods: This study was a descriptive-cross sectional study. 130 patients who referred to orthodontic department of dental faculty of Yazd shahid sadoughi university of medical science were chosen. The facial index of subjects were determined on the basis of Farkas study as (N’-Gn’÷Zy-Zy ×100). Then photographs of their social smile from frontal view were captured and inter commissural distance (IC) and inter labial gap(ILG) were also measured and MSI was determined as [(ILG÷IC)×100]. By using SPSS software and statistical analysis (T-test and Pearson correlation) mean value of MSI and facial index was attained in men and women and The correlation rate between facial index and MSI was also evaluated. Results: The results of statistical analysis (T-test and Pearson correlation) showed that: The facial index mean value was 107.68±7.15 (108.39±7.26 in men and 106.98±7.03 in women).there was no statistical difference between 2 sexes. (Pvalue: 0.265) The MSI mean value was 17.76±3.79 (17.33±3.75 in men and 18.19±3.80 in women).there was no statistical difference between two sexes.(Pvalue:0.198) There was no statistical correlation between facial index and MSI (Pvalue:0.920).Conclusion: There are different faces and MSI but there is no correlation between facial form and smile type.

Failure of multiple teeth eruption is a rare dental anomaly. Various local, systemic or genetic factors implicated in this condition, or it may be an Idiopathic phenomenon. Here we describe an Iranian young female with multiple teeth impaction who is free from any systemic disease or syndromic condition. This patient was managed successfully by interdisciplinary treatment. Based on clinical presentation and radiographic examination this paper discusses the differential diagnosis and management of this case.

Aim: Hyoid and its attached muscles involved in three basic functions: deglutition, phonation, respiration and control of pharyngeal spaces. The aim of this study was to valuate hyoid bone position in relation to facial growth pattern in class III malocclusion.Material and Methods: This was a retrospective descriptive analytical study, performed on lateral ccphalograms of fifty patients with class III malocclusion with prognathic profile. Cephalograms were classified to three facial growth pattern groups so each group comprised of minimum 15 samples. T-test and ANOVA were used to compare the difference of mean value of growth pattern groups. P< 005 was considered as the level of significance.Results: The difference between means of ANB angle (0.78 degree) were significant (P=0.027) in three facial growth pattern groups. The indices determining the growth pattern were significantly different in three facial growth pattern groups (P<0.001). The findings showed a significant difference in H-RGN between three facial growth pattern groups and also showed no significant difference in H-Pal P, H-SN, H-Mand P, H-C3 between three growth pattern groups.Conclusion: The anteroposterior position of hyoid bone related to cervical colunm was not affected by facial growth pattern. But its antroposterior position related to mandible was affected by facial growth pattern. There were significant differences between hyoid bone position in three facial growth patterns. Vertical position of hyoid bone was not affected by facial growth pattern.
