Aim: This study aimed to investigate the effect of growth modification treatments on oral health-related quality of life in adolescents aged 11 to 14 years with Class II malocclusion.
Methods: Eighty people participated in this case-control study. The case group (n=43) included adolescents with a history of Class II malocclusion treated with growth modification. The control group consisted of 37 adolescents with Class II malocclusion who were not treated. Both groups were given a translation of the Child Perception Questionnaire (CPQ), measuring the quality of life in four domains: oral symptoms, functional limitations, psychological health, and social well-being. Data were statistically analyzed by SPSS software and a significance level of 0.05 was considered.
Results: The oral health-related quality of life of the case group was better than the control group in all areas although this difference was not statistically significant (P=0.204).
Conclusion: The oral health-related quality of life between two groups was not different; however, the difference in mental health components between the two groups was clinically negligible.

Background: The aim of study was the biological assessment of cultured RAW264 macrophage exposed to nano amorphous calcium phosphate particles by analyzing of cytotoxicity and genotoxicity tests. Methods: Nanoamorphus Calcium Phosphate particles were produced by sol-gel method, then particle size and hemogenicity was analyzed by XRD (X ray Diffraction). Cytotoxicity of nanoparticles was determinated with mouse RAW264 macrophage. The cells cultured in 37°c in DMEM medium 96 parts plates with concentration of 10000 cells in each part for 72 hours, then the medium removed and the second medium added to cells containing different concentrations of Nano particle (0, 200 and 400µg/ml). After 24 hours of incubation, MTT assay and Annexin V were used for assessing cell viability and apoptosis. Results: The apoptosis insignificantly increased in macrophages with 200 and 400µg/ml NACP and for cytotoxicity, cell viability for control, 200µg and 400µg groups were 100,107,103 percent.Discussion: NACP has no cytotoxicity and genotoxicity, so it can be used as non-toxic and beneficial material for clinical use.

Aim: One of the important subjects in dentistry is oral habits which is a matter of concern for parents. Some scientists believe that the reason for starting and continuing oral habits can be due to psychological factors. Because the children's temper is related to the parents, it is possible that parents' personality characteristics would be related to creation of habits. The aim of this study was the evaluation of the role of mothers' personality characteristics on children's nutritive and non nutritive sucking habits.Material and methods: This cross-sectional study was done on seven year old girl students between 2006 and 2007 in Mashhad primary schools. A questionnaire was used including social history, questions about baby's oral habits and world standard psychological test (Eysenck). Overall 436 students were recruited. The data were analyzed through descriptive and Chi-square tests. Results: There was a significant relationship between the history of pacifier sucking habit and mother's personality characteristics, Children with anxious and depressed mothers used pacifier more than mothers with normal personality, however thumb sucking and other oral habits (nail chewing pencil chewing ... ) were not related to mother's personality characteristics. Conclusion: Only the pacifier sucking habit was related to mother's personality characteristics.
